THE SOUNDS OF THINGS FALLING by Juan Gabriel Vasquez
| Antonio wants to know who murdered his friend Ricardo Laverde. He was also shot at the same time. He has a difficult time dealing with being shot and it is affecting his life. He has determined he needs to know so he begins to look into Ricardo's life. He discovers the daughter Ricardo left behind and learns the family's story from her. I liked Antonio. His girlfriend was not very sympathetic to his fears after being shot. He has the need to know about Ricardo's murder. He hopes it will bring him peace. As he searches for and meets Ricardo's daughter, the two of them seem to have more in common than he and his girlfriend. It was interesting watching Antonio and Ricardo's daughter remember the past and make a connection to how they grew up and how Columbia and the violence there affected them. Antonio has to make decisions for his future but learning the past may make him change what the future holds for him |
