MURDER IN AIX by Susan Kiernan-Lewis
| 5th book in the Maggie Newberry Mystery series. Maggie is 8 months pregnant when her friend Julia is accused of murdering her ex-boyfriend. As Maggie tries to find the real murderer she runs into Inspector Roger Bedard again. She fights with him on Julia's innocence while both fight their attraction to each other. Maggie is fighting with Laurent as he tries to keep her and the baby safe during this murder investigation. I enjoy Maggie. She comes out and will not let Julie's innocence go. She is feisty as she goes up against Roger and his evidence against Julia. She also will not follow Laurent's suggestions for not getting into trouble. I liked the return of Grace but I did wonder if Grace was being melodramatic about her marriage. I always enjoy Jean Luc and Danielle. Roger, I'm not so sure about. If he would get over his jealousy and listen to Maggie--but then we would not have a story. The mystery was solid. I had no idea who it would be until it was explained at the end. There was quite a list of suspects. Maggie's deductions are as good as mine and gets her into trouble again. I look forward to Maggie's next adventure |
