ME AND EARL AND THE DYING GIRL by Jesse Andrews
| While the topic of this book is Rachel having leukemia and dying, it is told from Greg's point of view and he is funny. He tells us of his interactions with Rachel as she goes through treatments but he focuses mainly on himself and his writing of this book. It is very tongue-in-cheek but the teen-age voice comes through very clearly. I laughed. I cried. I loved this book! The characters are well-done and complex. Greg's telling of how he gets through school without friends is a riot. He sees Greg very clearly and does not let him get away with anything. He is the voice of truth. Greg's parents are funny also. Earl and Vince, Greg's dad, have an unusual relationship. Earl also takes Greg's mother in stride. Watching these guys plan their future is as wild as everything else in the book. This is a winner! Read it! |
