ALL THE LIGHT WE CANNOT SEE by Anthony Doerr

All the Light We Cannot See: A Novel - Zach Appelman, Anthony Doerr
A perfect book for commuters. This tells the stories of 3 people affected by the Nazi search for art treasures and jewels during WWII--a blind French girl, a German boy, and a German officer. Each small chapter gives the point-of-view of one of the main characters and the people in their life. Their fives are being told simultaneously during the given time period. We know what is happening to each one. I kept hoping for a happier ending but it was war time and war does things to people that give less than happy endings. I liked the characters especially Marie- Laure. She is a strong girl who grows into a strong woman. She does what she must to survive. I also liked Werner. He also does what he must to survive the war but with less than stellar results. Marie-Lucre's uncle Etienne grows the most from his PTSD during WWI though his work in WWII to thwart the enemy to the post-war period. He is my favorite character. I enjoyed this book and am glad I read it
